Cayenne pepper must be the hottest spice around. It’s so hot you get the feeling that you could weld metal with it.
There is a ‘heat’ scale for measuring from the lowest to highest called the Scoville scale. At the warm end there is the Chilli pepper ‘Poblano Ancho’ at the hottest (or ‘atomic’) end the Chilli Pepper ‘Naga Jolokia’.
The active ingredient that brings a range of health benefits in Cayenne pepper is the compound Capsaicin together with vitamins C, A, B6, and E, Potassium, Manganese, Copper, Iron and a number of flavonoids which have antioxidant properties.
Including small amounts of cayenne pepper in the everyday diet will bring a number of health benefits.
Reduce the risk of blood clots
The Capsaicin in cayenne pepper is a highly effective antioxidant and promotes strong blood flow through out all vessels of the body. In so doing it prevents the forming of blood clots. This reduces the risk of strokes and many heart conditions. It can help to lower blood pressure and open up blocked arteries and veins.
Try this as part of your routine.
Put ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a cup.
Add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar.
Add 1 tablespoon of honey.
Top up the cup with warm water and mix together until the honey has dissolved.
Drink this once or twice a day to benefit from the positive effects of cayenne pepper.
Muscle pain relief
Capaicin has an anti-inflammatory effect thus reducing pain. It can also interrupt the brain’s pain transmitters reducing the senses of pain. This helps reduce pain in both muscles and aching joints.
Applied as an ointment to the affected area it can bring some relief to arthritis, pain after surgery, back pain and sooth the effects of shingles.
You can make a home-made cream to bring pain relief.
Put ½ a teaspoon of cayenne pepper with 3 teaspoons of olive oil and mix thoroughly.
Gently rub it onto the painful joint or muscle and leave for 15-20 minutes. Wipe or rinse it away. Do this daily to reduce the pain.
Do not apply this to broken skin or areas where there maybe an irritation rash.
Taking ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper, with other food, every day can help you to lose weight. It suppresses appetite, reducing the want or need to ingest surplus calories. It also boosts the metabolism which will help to burn body-fat, giving you the chance to hit your ideal weight target.
An ideal detox
Do this every day for 1 week.
Squeeze the juice from a lemon into a glass tumbler.
Add ½ a teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
Add 1-2 teaspoons of honey.
Top up with warm water and drink before a meal.
This, done regularly, will assist with liver function and, because cayenne stimulates the circulation, it will raise the body temperature. This will activate the sweat glands releasing waste from the system, a good way of removing toxins.
For that sore throat
Gargle with cayenne pepper dissolved in water.
Put ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper in a cup of hot water and gargle with it for 3 to 4 times a day.
Or, mix ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper with 1 tablespoon of honey and eat it slowly several times a day.
Capsaicin is a natural decongestant which can reduce inflammation and control nasal mucus levels.
