The benefits of raw garlic come from the active compound Allicin. This is a potent and quite powerful agent that has the ability to inhibit germs in their growth and reproduction. It’s claimed that 1 milligram of Allicin has the potency of 15 units of penicillin.

It’s also known as an effective medication for colds, helping as a decongestant and expectorant. Further more it will help with bronchial conditions including asthma, coughs and disorders involving the lungs.
A remedy for asthma is syrup garlic. This is made by boiling garlic bulbs until soft then adding vinegar to equal the volume of water being boiled, add sugar and boil to a syrup. The syrup is then poured over the boiled garlic bulbs. Store this in a jar and every day take a clove from a bulb with some of the syrup.
For ear infections take a slice of a garlic clove and wrap it in moist tissue paper. Insert this into the affected ear as though it were an ear plug and the pain will start to disperse, don’t push it in too far. If you can leave it in overnight the infection will have chance to clear. An easier way may be to use Oil of Garlic Extract for clearing blocked ears and halting infections.
For soar a throat peel the skin of a garlic clove and chew it very slowly for 1 – 20 minutes, swallowing the juice as you chew. This will largely clear the discomfort almost straight away.
Insect bites treated with garlic juice mixed with salt will often reduce the pain. It can also apparently have an effect on ringworm infections and reduce the iching.
For a cold, at the early signs, the advice is to chop 4 cloves of garlic and eat straight away or add it to soup. I think I prefer the soup method.
Toothache is something that I have personally had experience of. Chew a garlic clove and hold it against the gum area where the problem tooth is. It will deaden the pain. The down side of is that you have to keep on doing it which means that the skin on the gum becomes soar. Depending on how much your dentist understands about the uses of garlic for this, you may have difficulties explaining that the skin on the gum will repair its self.
For warts there is apparently an effect when regularly applying fresh garlic juice. I know nothing on the subject but I can’t think that there’s any harm in trying.
Breathing garlic fumes over everyone can be avoided if you crush a fresh clove in a metal spoon, add some olive oil and swallow it in one go. Haven’t tried this yet but it’s something to consider. Drinking lemon juice will reduce bad breath. There are odourless garlic capsules available for those who want to include garlic in their dietary routine
Blocked sinuses can be cleared by adding minced garlic to melted butter and spreading it on toast. I think I’ll give this a try sometime it’ll make a change from marmalade.
